Why should we not have to wear school uniforms? hmp! sa SLC araw araw paiba-iba uniforms.. nu ba yan? kolehiyoba kame? o high school? Opinyon ko lang naman..

• Students are not trashy dressers. One day we had a free dress day, and I heard a teacher say, "Wow, you guys look really great in your street clothes. It's nice to have a breather, isn't it?"
• Some people say that they help to ease gang tension, but in reality, I was once accused in being in a gang because of my uniform.
  I was wearing my navy blue skirt, white collared shirt, and navy blue school logo sweatshirt, and someone blatantly asked me, "Are you a 'crip'? 'Cause you're wearing almost all blue."
  I have never been asked this before, and I was shocked. I am not in any gang, and I don't want to be labled as a gang member. I am more at risk wearing a uniform that in my usual clothes. So why should I wear a uniform? The choice seems simple, doesn't it?
• I know a girl, We will just call her Ms. X, who dresses in uniform gang clothing just to rebel against the uniform. We can't have that, can we?
• Most kids that I know have limited funds but work hard for their money. (Summer jobs, Allowance, chores, etc.) And most also have to buy their own clothes. So shouldn't they be able to spend it on something that will please them, bring them joy, and a sense of accomplishment? With a uniform they think things like, "I saved up and Now I have to buy this stupid, tacky, Navy blue jumper. Yuk!"
• Some people think that uniforms give us more school pride. YEAH RIGHT!!! Just to clear up any misunderstanding, here's the deal: KIDS (AT LEAST FOR THE MOST PART) HATE UNIFORMS AND ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH THEM. THIS INCLUDES SCHOOL. UNIFORMS MAKE OTHERWISE CONTENT KIDS HATE SCHOOL. (Take me, for example.)
• If there are 180 days in a school year, and 8 class periods in a day, and each teacher takes 3 minutes per period to to a uniform check, then by the end of the year we have wasted a grand total of 4,320 minutes on absolutely nothing. (Face it, right after the uniform check, everyone just un-tucks their shirt anyway.)
• Uniforms bring all different races/colors/religions together? Okay, whatever. Clothing does not seperate us. Racism and scociety's attitude seperates us. In fact, race has absolutely nothing to do with clothing styles. Flame me if you want, but I think that races/religions/colors, etc. would become closer if we were allowed free dress. I mean, when we wear a uniform, it is true that we see that everyone is dressing alike, but we know that it is under force, so it holds no water with us.But if we were allowed free dress, then we might open up a few eyes by showing kids that--when allowed to wear their own clothes, they actually dress a lot like people they never knew they had anything in common with.
  Another way to solve the racial issue would be to do more during Black History Month, (which I feel does not get half the attention it deserves) and have more school time devoted to other projects like it. But please...unity through a uniform? I'm sorry, but that is pathetic.
• Let's face it...we all look like dorks. Don't you think that a good learning enviornment is one in which we feel good about ourselves and the way we are dressed? Hhmmmm...
• Most kids hate it. I'm sorry, I mean, I know that there are a lot of things that kids hate that are actually good for them, like homework, tests, etc, but a uniform is just not one of them.
• two words-Dry cleaning
• how one dresses is a representation of who that person is. In fact, it even says something about what kind of music you listen to, sometimes.
  On the other hand, a uniform is a uniform. A dull, stale, boring, crusty old uniform.
  How would you dress if you had a choice? 

Update!!!!

At our school, we can "opt out" of the uniform, which means our parents sign some forms, conference with the principal, and after a lot of crap like that, we basically don't have to wear a uniform. Well, I have been begging my parents to "opt me out" for almost two years and they FINALLY said yes!!! but, I have to keep my room immaculately (woah, how do you spell that?) clean, and I can only wear "real" clothes one day every week, the other four days I have to wear the uniform. I'm so happy that I have what I have, though.
